A tradition of the Dogon people, each piece in our indigo collection is made in Burkina Faso – hand-stitched and hand-dyed from natural indigo (indigofera plant). The cloths are dipped in dye vats repeatedly over a period of days or weeks, imbuing rich color. Indigo is revered in traditional West African culture, prized for its rare beauty, nobility, and spirituality; babies swaddled in indigo are said to sleep peacefully.
