Piedra Collection
Sconce

$2,375.00

Our Piedra lighting takes its inspiration from the stone masks of the ancient civilization of Teotihuacán. Carved in the Mexican city of Tecali — which means ‘stone house’ in Nahuatl — these wall sconces and semi-flush mount lights draw on the clean lines, defined angles, and streamlined silhouettes that epitomize the pre-Colombian stone masks. Sculpted from carefully chosen marble or onyx, each piece reflects the unique character of the individual stone from which it is formed.

Leadtime 6-8 weeks.

Each piece in this collection is cut from carefully selected stone blocks. Every natural stone product is unique; variation in color, tone, veining and pattern is to be expected as part of the stone’s inherent characteristics. Markings, lines and crystallization are a natural part of the stone’s beauty. Images and samples are indicative of the color and characteristics of the stones we work with in this collection and are not meant to portray an exact representation of the actual piece that you will receive.

This collection of cotton stria and wool bouclé fabrics is woven for us by weavers in the high Atlas Mountains of Morocco. The pillows are made from fabrics based on those traditionally woven for the Berber robes (djellabas) worn by both men and women throughout North Africa–cotton for the summer months, and wool for the winter.

  • graphic botanical linen throw pillow
    $310.00

This collection takes its lead from the tribal villages of Hazaribagh in Northeastern India, where the walls of the villages’ mud homes are decorated with rambling, figurative murals.

The mural-painting is part of a matrimonial ritual for the women which takes place every spring during the marriage season. Fleeting in nature, each year the murals are washed away with the heavy monsoon rains–and then once again started anew.

Drawn to the exaggerated scale and the boldness of the Khovar designs, we commissioned women in the villages to do three paintings for us (leaf, vine, flower)–which we have translated into a collection of fabrics and wallpapers.

Our partners in this collection, the women from the Tribal Women Artists Cooperative (TWAC), receive a commission for each yard sold.

  • grano de arroz pouf made in colombia from hand-woven cane fibers
    $935.00

This collection takes inspiration from sombrero vueltiaos—traditional Colombian hats—which have for many generations been made by the Zenú people in the northern reaches of the country. Working together with master artisans from the small town of Tuchin, we have ‘reimagined’ this weaving tradition into new forms.

The poufs are made from caña flecha—an indigenous local palm fiber—which is dyed using color extracted from local leaves and plants. Long thin strips of the fiber are finely braided together into strands which are then sewn into a series of concentric circles.

We’ve designed the poufs to have complementary but contrasting patterning on top and bottom. Pairs can be positioned as identical matches – or one with one side up, and the other with the other side up.

    Leadtime 1-2 weeks.

Board-formed leather shade with brass hardware.

The lamps in this collection are inspired by Colombia’s equestrian heritage, layered with a jewel-toned color palette that takes inspiration from the works of Colombian artist Fernando Botero.

Talabartero translates as ‘master saddler,’ and the collection draws upon the expert craftsmanship and fine detailing—the stitching, the braiding and the hand tooling—that characterize the best of vintage saddles from the area.

Each lamp is crafted from natural grain board-formed leather, guided by the same formation techniques as those used in fashioning saddles, with curves reminiscent of the figures in Botero’s paintings.

We’ve partnered with master craftsman Edgar Beltrán Jaramillo and the skilled team in his Bogotá-based workshop to bring this collection to life.

    Leadtime 8-10 weeks.
