Werregue Collection
Escaleras Pendant

$2,700.00

The upper and lower band patterning woven into this piece represents stairs. Steps are a very important element in the Wounaan culture because they live in stilt houses in the villages. The center band represents the flow of the rivers, and the paths that these rivers form as a part of the local landscape.

Given the nature and story of these Werregue palm pendants, the tightly woven fiber results in an opaque shade, with a focused spot light emanating from the bottom mouth of the fixture.

Leadtime 1-2 weeks.

Each pendant is one-of-a-kind.

  • Barro Negro Collection
Barro Negro Lamp with Ball Pull

    $1,675.00

The clay–known as barro negro–from which these table lamps are made is exclusive to the Sierra Madre mountains in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Local legend holds that the clay is blessed.

The deep, inky color is the result of the unique properties of this indigenous clay combined with a firing process in which the smoke and heat—and deprivation of oxygen—creates an intense carbonization effect.

Prior to being fired in an underground, wood-burning pit, the pieces are meticulously burnished with a curved quartz stone, marking the clay with a subtle sheen.

Created in collaboration with maestro Amando Pedro, our long time friend and collaborator, in his workshop in San Bartolo Coyotepec, we drew inspiration for the shape from ancient cántaros, the traditional vessels used to transport and store mezcal.

    Leadtime 4-6 weeks.

  • Pabilo blanket handwoven with Cotton and Wool
    $675.00

Incorporating a technique developed in the workshop in the 1970’s, the weave of this bedcover combines a cotton warp with a wool weft, working with yarns of varying thicknesses. The gathered ‘pockets’ are the result of the deft work of a single person expertly manipulating a 4-pedal–loom: each of the two warps relies on a different tension, resulting in the little pockets of fabric that characterize this distinctive design.

    Leadtime 1-2 weeks.
